CHILDCARE ADVOCATE

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated person to provide childcare to the children of Magdalena House while mothers have on-site Enrichment sessions, appointments, and educational classes. The Child Advocate works directly with residents of Magdalena House to ensure that care of their children includes healthy engagement and instruction. This position requires the intellectual and emotional maturity to work with children who have experienced complex trauma. The position reports to the Director of Behavior Health and Wellness.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide care of children when mothers are in Tuesday evening Enrichment sessions and as needed during on-site meetings, parenting sessions, counseling, and special occasions such as holiday breaks.
  • Assist other staff providing childcare with organizing activities and items needed for childcare.
  • Engage in child-appropriate activities and playtime with children.
  • Supervise and monitor the safety of children in your care.
  • Provide snacks and/or meals as appropriate and/or instructed by the mother of the child(ren).
  • Change the diapers of infants and toddlers as needed.
  • Help children maintain good hygiene (hand washing, wiping noses, cleaning up, etc).
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic record-keeping software, including hours of service provided, incidents, and other required case documentation.
  • Develop positive working relationships with families, staff, and volunteers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPR and First Aid Certified preferred
  • Ability to pass background check
  • Experience working with infants and children
  • Ability to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of our residents
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including with persons from diverse cultures
  • Willingness to work additional hours as needed (days, nights, weekends, and holidays)
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or have reliable transportation
  • Ability to respect a drug, alcohol and smoke free environment
  • Ability to carry 35 pounds

PAY RATE AND SCHEDULE:

  • Pay rate - $15/hr
  • Part time schedule – 2 hours/week on Tuesday evenings 6-8pm (Additional as-needed hours may be offered)

COMMUNITY ADVOCATE

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated person to assure a safe, loving and stable environment during assigned shifts; to ensure dignified, respectful and empowering interactions with residents aligning with trauma informed care best practices; to respond to emergencies per prescribed policies. Position is supervised by the Community Living Manager. This position is a mandatory OVERNIGHT and Weekend with OVERNIGHT position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Resident Handbook, Staff Handbook and MH policies.
  • Awareness of on-going activities and persons on property during assigned shift.
  • Complete required trauma informed certification and all other training provided by MH.
  • Provide enriched and authentic relationships with residents while maintaining appropriate boundaries per Magdalena House Policies.
  • Seek ways to empower the family towards success and self-sufficiency.
  • Complete nightly house walkthroughs to check on status of house.
  • Electronic entry of resident interaction, curfew information, violations, and journal notes into case management software.
  • Provide transportation for families per MH policies.
  • Contact Executive Director, Program Director and/or Community Living Manager to report unusual activity.
  • Distribute supplies to residents as required for specific shifts.
  • Respond to all phone calls on your shift.
  • Receive, record, process and store in-kind donations delivered on your shift.
  • Support volunteers and work teams serving on your shift as directed by weekday staff.
  • Provide support to staff during programmatic activities and/or childcare that occurs during your shift.
  • Contact authorities as needed in emergencies.
  • Distribute over-the-counter medications as per MH policies. Note: Community Advocate never provides medical direction or suggestions to residents.
  • Watch a mother’s child in emergency situations as per MH policies.
  • Other supportive duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Community Living Manager.

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Attend monthly staff meetings and Community Living Consult meetings in person and/or via zoom if unable to be present.
  • Attend annual staff retreat and gala.
  • When unable to be present during assigned hours, seek coverage from other Community Advocates or staff, notifying Community Living Manager of any changes.
  • Arrive on time.
  • Magdalena House is a smoke-free campus.
  • Background and drug testing prior to employment offer.

  • High School diploma or equivalent or higher.
  • Experience working with women and children.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.

  • Ability to use office equipment and computers.
  • Ability to carry 35 pounds.
  • Ability to drive MH vehicles to transport residents when scheduled or when emergency occurs.
  • Ability to be drug and alcohol-free and respect a smoke-free environment.
